MORE BUSY Saturday.....continued

After the Elmo show, we went with Hannah and her parents to Loose Park.  It was sunny and 61 degrees, and all Hannah and Leyton wanted to do was play outside.  The park was as crowded as I have ever seen, and it was a frenzy of kids running around together.
Leyton and Hannah loved the slides.  Went up and down them over and over again.  The dads took a few rides down the slides as well.  Pretty out of control!!!
While we were there, Leyton was climbing up the stairs to the top of the slide and bumped into a little boy just about his size.  When they caught eyes, the two just stared at one another as if they knew who the other one was.  Really funny.  Turns out, they did know each other.  It was Cooper from Leyton's class.  Daddy and mommy visited with Cooper's parents for a bit.  Leyton thought it was cool to see one of his school buddies at the Park.
After about 20 more trips up the stairs and down the slide, it was time to go.  Leyton and Hannah hugged and kissed good-bye.  Cutest thing in the world.  It was a great day!

A BUSY Saturday....continued

Okay, so after the grocery store and some light house cleaning, daddy gave Leyton a haircut.  He needed it desperately!  He now looks very dapper, and he had to look his best for Hannah (his date to the Sesame Street concert!)
That's right - we took Leyton to the Sesame Street show playing at the Sprint Center - Elmo's Green Thumb.  We met the Carney's there, and it was a date with Hannah Banana.  Leyton and Hannah had a blast.  They danced, sang and counted along with all of the Sesame Street characters.  Leyton's favs are Elmo and Big Bird, of course; as soon as one left the stage, Leyton would stand up and ask "where did Elmo go?"  It was super fun to see, and Leyton ate half a tub of popcorn as he grooved to the sounds of the show.  Daddy was really tapping his toes and hopping, too, to all the buzz!

A BUSY Saturday for The Selkirks!

We started our day with a trip to the grocery store.  On a typical trip to the store, Leyton and mommy make a first stop at the deli counter for a slice of his favorite Colby Jack cheese.  This morning, we picked up our slice of cheese and set out on our spree for groceries.  Today, though, Leyton was not in the cheese mood for some reason.
Leyton's absolute favorite part of a grocery trip is the return home when it is time to unload the bags.  One by one, he loves to help us unload and put away the groceries.
Mommy and daddy decided today was the perfect day to clean out and reorganize the cabinets - always a fun chore!  We found some real treasures in the deepest depths of the pantry:  a box of corn starch that expired in Oct. 2005 and a cannister of Carnation drink mix that expired in....(drum roll, please)...Aug. of 2004.  Whoa!

Leyton's Lunch

Daddy picked Leyton up today from school and brought home his daily report.  There was an interesting note next to the line that normally explains what he ate for lunch.  Apparently, today he "refused (his) lunch" entirely.  We looked on the menu and realized that chicken fried rice was served.  Guess Leyton was not a big fan!  I had to include a photo of the report.
Needless to say, Leyton devoured two plates of spaghetti, 1/2 cup of yogurt, and a plate of mac n'cheese for dinner tonight.

ICE-SKATING at Crown Center

We took a group of students ice-skating last night at the Crown Center Ice Terrace.  It was about 7 degrees, snowing, but the cold didn't seem to get to me with the 500 layers I was wearing.  After a few warm-up laps, I managed to feel my way back on to the ice, and the rhythm all came back to me.  Everyone was amazed when I turned a triple-axle and a back flip.  Old habits die hard, I guess.

Leyton making donuts at school!

After waking up at 4 am and 30 minutes of uncontrollable and outrageous temper tantrums earlier this morning, it looks like Leyton’s day is on the up-and-up after all. If you could have seen him this morning (crazy amounts of screaming, arms and legs flying, taggies and “b’s” being thrown about), you could not have possibly believed that there was a calm bone in his body. Hysteria is the best way to describe it. BUT, looks like the new girl (named Noemi) in his class has caught his attention. Way to go, Leyton! Keep making those donuts :)

This won't be funny to just anyone....

...but, it is seriously like an episode from The Office. I am trying to understand the logic in this thing that happens every day in my office. There is a funny thing that happens. Here is the deal. In the small, two-stall women's bathroom shared by our third floor, there is a manual heating unit which can be adjusted by anyone using the restroom. And, there seems to be two extremes: either a high of either 500 degrees with the fan on high heat or a low of 22 degrees when someone comes in and opens the window on a 7 degree day like the one today. Who walks into a bathroom and feels the need to adjust the temperature for the short time they are using the facilities ?
Ha! My workplace commentary for the day!

Hey Leyton,
Mister wanted to tell you hi and that he misses you and tag-tag.  I have been reading your blog and really enjoy seeing all the fun things you have been up to.  Sounds like you have been a very busy boy these days!  I hope to see you soon because I miss you.  Hugs and Kisses~ Aunt Wee

RALPH'S WORLD CONCERT

Mommy and I had a rockin' good time this afternoon at a Ralph's World concert at the Reading Reptile.  There was a packed house, and we were moving, bouncing and dancing almost the entire time.

One of my friends from school, Ari, was there with his brother and parents.  I waved hello to them.  We also sat next to a girl named Harper.  Harper was nice; as it turns out, she sucks the same two fingers that I do - except on her left hand.  And, the only time she sucks her fingers is when she is rubbing the taggie on her blanket.  Just like me.  We were a perfect pair and ended up sitting side-by-side in the back row of the concert.  She was kind of quiet, but so was I :)  We had a lot in common.
I am getting ready for some dinner now.  More later...

A NEW HAUSMAN FAMILY PHOTO...

THIS is the latest photo of the Hausman family and their newest addition!

Baby Hausman is here!

E-mail rec'd from Tyler, Jan. 25 at 8:35 am:
"Hello again, it's now 8:10 am on January 25, and Trey Oliver Hausman has entered the world.  He was born at 7:29am, weigh 7lbs 5oz, and was 19.5 inches long.  He's got hair a dimple and a good set of lungs.  I napped from about 4 o'clock until 6 am then prepped for the moment.  Jessica was a champ all the way through.  She only had to push for about 30 minutes until the moment of truth.  Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.  We'll be in touch soon.  Pics soon.
     -Tyler"

Bye Bye, Mommy...

Leyton was an early bird again this morning (wonder where he gets that from?!?!).  We watched some Shrek, a little Incredibles, colored, and played piano as we danced.  It has already been quite a morning!  After all of this fun, he asked for his hat and jacket, put both on, picked up his backpack, and said "bye bye, mommy.  i be right back."  Cutest thing ever :)  I am posting a picture.
Mommy has also been on e-mail stand-by.  Jessica sent a text message last night with news that her water broke and she had made it to the hospital.  Yea!!!  We can tell that Jess and Tyler are having much fun from the e-mails that Tyler has been sending over night.  Tyler has clearly lost all track of time (Scott can relate!), but as of 4 am this morning - Jess had rec'd the magic epidural and was still in labor.  We cannot wait to hear an update and see photos of new baby...hopefully soon.
Daddy is awake now, and the boys are eating biscuits.  Yum!  More to come later today.

Mmm, Mmmm, Good!

Nothing can keep me away from my Ted Drewe's!  This afternoon, Daddy and I sat on the couch and snacked on the famous frozen custard.  I can't get enough of it!  Maybe a little brain freeze, but it was well worth it....  Mommy and daddy told me about the time when we visited Ted Drewe's in St. Louis.  It was right around Thanksgiving time, and I was maybe 10 months old.  We went to Ted Drewe's for the first time, stood shivering outside in the cold, and mommy shared her  pumpkin pie custard with me.  I ate nearly half of it and could have finished it, they tell me, if I wouldn't have already sampled everyone else's custard.  I LOVE TED DREWE'S.
It is mmm, mmmm, good!  Night, night.  Leyton

Breakfast of Champions

Leyton's breakfast this morning was a true breakfast of champions!
On the menu:  Bagel with cream cheese, a clementine, 1/2 a bowl of macaroni n'cheese.  Yum!
Lunch menu at school:  Sloppy Joes (we'll see how that goes!)

Inauguration Day: Awesome!

An awesome day!  An unforgettable event!  Today was truly history-in-the-making!  Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th President of the United States this morning.  I can honestly say that this is one of those moments in my life where I will always remember where I was, what I was doing, how I was feeling, and just the overwhelming hype of the day itself.  It is sort of surreal to me still.
So, where was I when Obama was sworn in as President?  I was gathered in one of the large classrooms at KCUMB, sitting alongside all of my colleagues in an all-employee meeting where everyone was invited to watch and take part in this momentous event.  We have all-employee meetings at least once each quarter.  Interestingly, in the 6 years I have been working at the University, I have never witnessed any meeting like this one - not even remotely close.  From the opening ceremony and Obama's oath to his inaugural address and through the presentation and comments of guests, there was not so much as a whisper in the classroom.  Here were 250 individuals, all from varied backgrounds and political preferences, and the room was silent and completely attuned to the images displayed on the big screen.  I do not ever recall a time where I have felt the emotions that I did today.  I listened to the words spoken by Obama in his address and felt a million different things.  Funny how a single person can speak words that captivate and motivate millions of people.  And, all I could help but think about at the end of his inaugural address was how fortunate we are.  We are truly blessed to live in the country we live in, to enjoy the luxuries and blessings that we have, and to be a part of a proud people capable of so much and who can  accomplish anything we want to.  I felt inspired - really, truly inspired.
And, now, I am sitting here watching the televised presidential balls, and I am completely fascinated by all of it.  Crazy, huh??!  I just saw the President and First Lady in their first dance at the Neighborhood Ball (and, Michelle Obama's dress was fabulous, by the way...).  The momentum that this day is carrying is indescribable.
It is funny how things hit us.  Leyton said "Obama" this morning, and yet he doesn't understand or have a clue about any of this, right?  He is only 2 years old.  It is funny that he will one day read about this in history books and maybe hear his parents talk about what they remember.  He may wonder what any of this was like - what people were talking about and feeling.  It is funny how we can sit and wonder about what this means (and will mean) to all different people from all different backgrounds and of all different ages.  So many never thought they would see this day come.  And, yet, here we are.   Amazing.

Another project for Papa!?!?!

So, The Reading Reptile now sells handmade birthday shirts.  I couldn't resist taking a photo and posting.  Marilyn - we can add this to your list of "things to do."  :)

Reading at THE REPTILE

Mommy and I went to our favorite bookstore this morning, The Reading Reptile.  We really went to see the kitty cats, but when we got there, we found out that the kitties were upstairs sleeping.  Since there was a birthday party in progress, the kitties were not allowed to come and see me.  I was sad.  But, mommy and I decided to play and read some books anyway.  I met a girl and a boy named Patrick.  I played dinosaurs with Patrick, and I read with the little girl who told my mommy to get up out of her chair and sit on the floor.  I thought that was pretty funny :)
Mommy bought me a book called Mop Top.  It is about a little red-headed boy with a floppy mop top of hair on his head.  Mommy read the book to me and said that the boy in the book reminded her a lot of me.
I love The Reading Reptile, and I hope that next time we go back - the kitties will be there for me to play with.

Another birthday party!

Another birthday party!!!  Today's birthday bash was for Alex Carlton, LeAnn's youngest boy.  He turned 7, and Leyton was invited to his party at Monkey Bizness (a crazy play place, where children of all ages look and act like monkeys by climbing around on bouncy contraptions!)  Wowee; mommy was exhausted trying to keep up with the rest of the crew.  Lots of flushed faces and sweaty boys running around like wild men.  Leyton and I managed to hold our own, hiking up some serious climbs and plunging down some awesome slides.  He loved every minute of it, and he thought he was bigger than he really is!!!  (I'll be sending Snapfish photos soon!)  The white and banana-frosted cake topped off the event and gave Leyton the sugar rush to keep on going the rest of the night.
Back at home:  With the Steelers in the final round of the playoffs, Scott has been pretty focused (on the TV!) this afternoon, and Leyton got pretty into to it, too!  High fives dominated most of the evening before bedtime, and my boys were wound up!
We have been going strong all day long, so here's to hoping Leyton sleeps past 5 am tomorrow morning.  Will be sending more pics soon.  Hugs and kisses from Leyton :)
Grandma and Papa LOVE Leyton!!!!!!!!!

Birthday Party Weekend!

Hannah Banana's birthday party was this afternoon, and we were there in full party mode.  Leyton watched a balloon artist make crazy balloon hats and do fun magic tricks.  He sobbed and clung to mommy as soon as the balloon clown even looked in his direction, but after 15 minutes - he started to warm up finally.
Hannah turned two years old earlier this month, and her birthday party was decked out in Minnie Mouse theme.  Leyton told Hannah Happy Birthday.  Hannah hugged Leyton, and Leyton just stood there stiff as a board.  Hannah kissed Leyton, and he turned his head to the side and took her kiss on the cheek,...hardly moving.  (He smiled afterward!)  Cutest thing ever.  Wish the camera would have caught the image.
After cake and ice cream, we headed home.  I am not sure whether it was something in the cake or what happened after the party, but Leyton showed his age tonight fighting  us at bath time, telling mommy to "get away", and then threw his shoes.  It was quite the display!  Still a sweetface, though!

Hi AngelFace

I am so excited you have a blog now!!!  I miss you so much and cannot wait to see you!
